Punjab Pradesh Congress President Raja Warring led hundreds of party workers in a black flag protest in Zira, Ferozepur, on September 6, as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann arrived to induct Gurpreet Singh Sekhon into the Aam Aadmi Party. With a black band tied around his turban, Warring marched through the streets accompanied by former MLA Kulbir Zira, local Congress leaders, and party workers, holding black flags aloft as a mark of protest. The demonstration was a continuation of the campaign Congress announced earlier in the week, after Mohanjit Sheron — a young anti-drug campaigner from Sangrur — was allegedly beaten and given electric shocks in police custody for showing a black flag to CM Mann. Warring had declared that Congress workers, including Youth Congress and Mahila Congress members, would show black flags to Mann wherever he travels in Punjab until justice is served. Heavy police deployment and barricades were put up along the protest route to keep Congress workers away from the venue. Undeterred, the marchers raised slogans against the Chief Minister and Punjab Police, carrying the party's tricolour flag alongside black flags through the town's streets. Speaking to the media during the march, Warring reiterated the party's demand for the immediate dismissal of the SHO and DSP allegedly responsible for Mohanjit's custodial torture, and repeated his charge that Mann has "started behaving like Ahmed Shah Abdali."
