Sep 15, 2026
On September 15, 2026, Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Raja Warring joined senior Congress leaders and thousands of Congress workers in Chandigarh during a protest demanding accountability over the death of Gulzar Singh, a Dalit daily-wage worker from Toor Banjara in Sangrur district. The protest was led by newly appointed AICC general secretary in charge of Punjab, Sachin Pilot, who questioned why an FIR and detailed investigation had not been initiated into the allegations surrounding Gulzar Singh’s dying declaration. The Congress workers marched towards the residence of Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema, seeking his resignation and demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Gulzar Singh’s death. Police stopped the protesters from reaching the minister’s residence and used water cannons to disperse the gathering. Several Congress workers, including senior leader Kuljit Singh Nagra, were reportedly injured during the police action. Raja Warring joined other senior Punjab Congress leaders in addressing the gathering and criticising the AAP government over its handling of the drug crisis, Gulzar Singh’s case and unfulfilled promises. The protest also saw senior leaders reaffirming their unity and commitment to working together for the Congress campaign ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.
